Utah’s water etches glass. We remove the mineral haze and protect against it.

5.0 on Google — 60+ reviews and counting Licensed & Insured 7-Day Rain Guarantee on Quarterly & Monthly plans Family & Locally Owned in Salt Lake City

Utah has some of the hardest water in the country — and it doesn’t take a sprinkler to damage your glass. Any time mineral-heavy water dries on a window and isn’t cleaned off, it leaves calcium and magnesium behind. Sprinkler overspray is the fastest culprit, but rain running off brick, stucco, and mortar, roof and gutter runoff, and everyday dew leave the same buildup on windows that never see a sprinkler. Layer after layer, those white mineral spots harden — and left long enough, they etch into the glass permanently, past the point any normal cleaning can fix. The only reliable prevention is removing the buildup and keeping the glass regularly cleaned. Ember removes existing staining with a dedicated restoration process — then helps you keep it from coming back.

Frequently asked questions

Can every stain be removed?

We successfully remove most hard water staining. Some is simply too far gone — long-neglected buildup can etch permanently into the glass, and there’s no way to know for sure until we start the removal process. Either way, your glass will look dramatically better after treatment than before it.

What causes hard water stains on windows?

Hard water staining is mineral buildup — mostly calcium and magnesium — left behind when water dries on glass instead of being cleaned off. Utah’s water is exceptionally mineral-heavy, so it happens fast here. Sprinkler overspray is the most common cause, but rain running off brick, stucco, and mortar deposits the same minerals, and so do roof runoff and dew — which is why windows nowhere near a sprinkler still develop it. The buildup is gradual, so most people don’t notice until the glass looks permanently cloudy, and left long enough the minerals etch into the surface where no standard cleaning can remove them. Regular professional window cleaning is the most effective way to prevent it.
