A mirror that streaks is usually not dirty — it is coated. Household glass sprays leave a film behind, and every wipe moves that film around instead of lifting it, so the same smears reappear in the same places. Bathrooms add their own layers on top: toothpaste spatter, hairspray, and hard water spotting from sink and shower overspray, on glass that sits damp far more often than anything else in the house. Ember strips the buildup rather than polishing it, treats any mineral spotting the way we treat it on a window, and checks the finish against the light — which is the only place streaks honestly show. It is an interior add-on, done on the same visit as your windows.

The process

  1. 1

Dust and dry-wipe first, so grit is never dragged across the glass

  2. 2

Cut the film — toothpaste, hairspray, and cleaning-product residue come off before anything else

  3. 3

Treat any hard water spotting from sink and shower overspray

  4. 4

Finish edge to edge and check it against the light, which is where streaks actually show.

Frequently asked questions

How much does mirror cleaning cost?

$2–$6/mirror, and the only thing that moves a mirror up or down that range is its size — a small vanity mirror sits at the bottom, a full wall or gym run at the top. Nothing else changes the per-mirror figure. Your total depends on how many mirrors you have and how large they are, and our team confirms it with your free quote.

Can you clean just my mirrors, without the windows?

Mirror cleaning is an interior add-on rather than a standalone job — it goes on the same visit as your window cleaning, so there is no separate trip to schedule or pay for. Mention it when you book or when we arrive and we will take care of it while we are inside. If mirrors are genuinely all you need, call the office and they will tell you honestly whether it is worth a trip out.

Will they actually be streak-free?

That is the whole job. A mirror that streaks is almost always coated rather than dirty: household glass sprays leave a residue, and each wipe moves that film around instead of lifting it, which is why the same smears reappear in the same places. We strip the buildup first, then finish edge to edge and check the result against the light — raking light across the surface is the only way streaks honestly show, and it is what we check before calling a mirror done.

What do you use on mirrors?

A low-residue professional glass solution and clean microfibre, with a squeegee on the large wall and gym runs where a towel alone would drag. We spray the cloth rather than the glass so liquid never runs down into the bottom edge, and we keep ammonia away from mirrors entirely. Nothing abrasive touches the surface — grit is dry-removed first so it is never dragged across the glass.

Can cleaning damage the edges or the silvering?

It can, which is why the method matters. A mirror is glass with a metallic backing, and that backing is only sealed at the edges — let cleaner pool along the bottom rail and it wicks underneath, which is what causes the black creeping edges you see on old bathroom mirrors. Ammonia-based cleaners make it worse. We spray the cloth, not the mirror, keep liquid off the edges, and dry the bottom rail deliberately. Mirrors that are already desilvered cannot be reversed by cleaning, and we will tell you if we see it rather than let you expect it to come out.

Why do bathroom mirrors spot so badly?

Two reasons, and they compound. Utah’s water is mineral-heavy, so every splash from the sink or shower that dries on the glass leaves calcium behind — the same process that etches windows. And bathroom humidity means the glass is damp far more often than any other mirror in the house, so there is more chance for water to dry on it. Kept clean it stays clear; left long enough the mineral spotting behaves like hard water on a window.
